IWPG Suncheon Branch Holds August Regular Meeting 
of the International Women’s Peace Network




In August, the Suncheon branch of IWPG held its regular monthly meeting under the theme, “My Change, the Beginning of Peace.” Members had the opportunity to reflect on the value of peace and learn practical self-care methods that can be applied in daily life.

The meeting began with an introduction to IWPG and a screening of the branch’s first-half activities. Following a welcoming speech by the branch leader, a special lecture was held with beauty medical expert, Mi-sun Kim, focusing on the connection between self-care and a peaceful life. Participants resonated deeply with the idea that self-care goes beyond appearance—it nurtures inner health, confidence, and a peaceful way of living.

During the event, new peace instructors were officially commissioned. These instructors will lead local initiatives and educational programs focused on women’s peace activities.

 Branch Leader Jin-ah Jung commented, “This meeting provided a meaningful opportunity for members to cultivate both health and peace through lectures and practical self-care guidance. We will continue to support women in growing as key agents of peace.”

The Suncheon branch also encouraged members to participate in the upcoming 2025 International Women’s Peace Conference on September 19. This global conference brings women together to advocate for the international legal recognition of the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW) and to promote a culture of peace worldwide.

IWPG is a global women’s NGO registered with the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and the Department of Global Communications (DGC). With 115 branches in 122 countries and over 800 partner organizations, IWPG actively works to achieve sustainable world peace through women’s peace education, promotion of a culture of peace, and support for the legal recognition of the DPCW.

▎ IWPG Gyeyang Branch Signs Peace Agreement with Local Organizations

On July 30, the Incheon Gyeyang Branch of the International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG), led by Branch Director Kang So-young, signed a peace memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Best Shield Co., the Vietnamese Community Association in Incheon, and the International Gamaseot Federation Incheon Branch. The agreement was established as a platform for cooperation to spread a culture of peace and bring tangible benefits to the local community.

▎ A Special Signing Ceremony with Citizens

The signing ceremony was held during a one-day tea café event called “Harmony Sharing Café.” It drew attention by blending with a citizen-participation peace program. This combination of organizational cooperation and voluntary public involvement created a meaningful opportunity to put peace into practice.




▎ Voices of Citizens for Peace

At the event, citizens took part in a campaign titled “Join Us in Peace” by writing messages and signing cards. Messages such as “With the heart of a mother, we stop wars and safeguard peace” and “Your small participation today can change the future of humanity” came together, amplifying the meaning of peace.

Branch Director Kang So-young of IWPG Gyeyang noted that the agreement was especially meaningful because it combined the intentions of multiple organizations with active citizen participation. Representatives from the partner organizations also shared that holding the ceremony in an open, citizen-centered space was deeply moving. Going forward, the four institutions plan to carry out joint campaigns and cooperative programs to further promote a culture of peace.

The messages and signatures collected at the event will be delivered to IWPG’s ongoing peace campaigns in Korea and abroad. IWPG is an international women’s NGO registered with the UN ECOSOC and the Department of Global Communications (DGC). With the vision of realizing sustainable world peace, IWPG spreads a culture of peace, provides women’s peace education, strengthens international solidarity, and advocates for the legislation of the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW).

HWPL Captivates Philippine State Media with Mindanao Peace Agreement



HWPL’s peace activities leave an impression too powerful to ignore. In particular, their work in Mindanao—a region in the Philippines devastated by over 40 years of conflict—deeply resonated with local journalists. On January 25, 2014, a dramatic civilian-led peace agreement was signed, ending decades of bloodshed that had claimed 120,000 lives and displaced 2 million people. Though not a government treaty, the agreement represented a powerful, grassroots step toward reconciliation and coexistence.

Over the following years, Mindanao saw a gradual but steady return to peace. Philippine media, witnessing this transformation firsthand, began closely following HWPL’s initiatives. The state-run broadcaster PTV conducted more than 10 live interviews with Chairman Man Hee Lee, highlighting his consistent efforts. Numerous outlets reported directly from the field, documenting the ongoing peace process.



On May 22, 2015, CNN Philippines aired a feature on Chairman Lee’s peace initiatives, highlighting HWPL’s growing influence. Then, on January 25, 2018, the nation’s largest media conglomerate ABS-CBN invited Chairman Lee and his peace delegation for a televised interview on ANC News. That day held special significance: major outlets including CNN, PTV, and ABS-CBN came together to witness the appointment of media professionals as HWPL Peace Ambassadors—a symbolic gesture of commitment to peace journalism.

The Philippine press has evolved from mere reporters to responsible partners in peacebuilding. HWPL’s Mindanao peace agreement became a turning point, showing the media’s power to influence society positively. Through their coverage, more people became aware of the possibility—and reality—of lasting peace. This legacy of peace continues to be written, one story at a time.

Global Media Tune In to the 'Groundbreaking Answer to Peace'




Chairman Man Hee Lee of HWPL’s “Answer to Peace” goes beyond a simple slogan—it serves as a catalyst for spreading a culture of peace globally. News outlets around the world have actively reported on HWPL’s peace initiatives, positioning themselves as partners in the journey toward peace.

Romania’s state broadcaster, Antena 3TV, has taken a leading role in promoting peace journalism through its cooperation with HWPL. In 2019, the network conducted a direct interview with Chairman Lee and the HWPL peace delegation, shedding light on the sincerity and significance of their peace movement. As the top-rated broadcaster in Romania, Antena 3TV has continued a variety of cooperative efforts with HWPL since signing an MOU.



HWPL promotes peace journalism by signing MOUs with media organizations around the world. These agreements go beyond news coverage—they are part of the “Peace Initiative (PI),” which seeks to deliver peace messages and explore real solutions in conflict zones. Notably, this initiative began as a suggestion from journalists who attended the 3rd Annual Commemoration of the September 18th Peace Summit in 2017, adding deeper significance.

Countries in Central and South America—such as Nicaragua, Colombia, Peru, and Mexico—have shown great interest in HWPL’s peace initiatives. Given the high demand for peace in these regions, media outlets have focused their coverage on Chairman Lee and HWPL’s efforts. In El Salvador, the Megavision Group aired a special live broadcast for HWPL, while TV21 and MN19 conducted in-depth interviews with Chairman Lee.



In February 2019, a special press conference was held at the New South Wales Parliament House in Sydney, Australia. Broadcasting stations from 16 Pacific Island nations participated, expressing their interest in peace and willingness to cooperate. HWPL’s message of peace resonates across borders, inspiring journalists worldwide.

The Wave of HWPL Peace Blossoming In Zambia, Kenya and Malaysia




Following the successful launch of HWPL peace education in Zambia earlier this year, the initiative has now reached a new milestone in institutionalization. A regional MOU signing ceremony was recently held at Lusaka Girls Secondary School, where 11 schools from the central region pledged to implement peace education. This MOU follows the Zambian government’s April announcement to integrate peace education into its national curriculum. School principals and education officials gathered to witness the moment, along with a presentation on HWPL's peace education curriculum.

The regional education leader from Lusaka Central emphasized, “Peace begins in the classroom,” highlighting the crucial role of schools. Principals not only signed the MOU but also publicly pledged their commitment, as HWPL Zambia vowed continuous support. Today, HWPL’s peace education is being implemented in 852 schools across 102 countries, with more than 2,700 instructors worldwide. The program emphasizes helping students learn and practice values of harmony, coexistence, and peaceful conflict resolution.

On June 15, Dagoretti High School in Kenya hosted the 12th Anniversary of the Declaration of World Peace. It brought together students, citizens, and educators in a heartfelt celebration of peace and unity. The school band performed stirring music, and a speech by a Peace Club leader left a powerful impression on attendees. The highlight of the day was planting 150 trees, symbolizing seeds of peace and hope for the future.



As the event concluded, attendees shared laughter and joyful moments during a lighthearted cultural session. The group photo that wrapped up the event captured not just faces, but a spirit of solidarity and commitment to peace. An HWPL representative called the event “a festival of hope and solidarity,” stating that peace begins with simple, intentional actions. Just like planting a single tree, they stressed that consistent small efforts can change the world.

On May 30 in Kuching, Malaysia, peace took the form of environmental action through a coastal cleanup. The event marked World Environment Day and World Oceans Day, with around 20 youth volunteers taking part. They worked together to collect plastic waste and other debris to help restore the beach’s natural beauty. The HWPL Malaysia branch leader remarked, “Protecting the environment is part of building a peaceful society.”



That same day, a Peace Walk co-hosted by ICATS University saw over 200 citizens walking together through the streets of Kuching. Participants included youth leaders, politicians, educators, and everyday citizens. Malaysian MP Dato Lo Khere Chiang said, “Peace is a bridge to unity, and individual involvement is what strengthens it.” He emphasized that global peace starts with daily communication, urging everyone to do their part.
