HWPL, first peace tour of this year to the Philippines... Peace settlement in Mindanao reconfirmed
HWPL visited the Philippines on its 32nd peace tour. Through this visit, peace settlement was reconfirmed in Mindanao Island, Philippines, and official support for the HWPL peace project was obtained. The HWPL peace delegation, which returned from this tour, said, “We witnessed with our own eyes that peace is being achieved recently when self-government was established through through the Philippine government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF). Nine years ago, chairman Man Hee Lee's mediation of the conflict in Mindanao at the civil level became a seed of peace and bore fruit, and it led to a resolution to designate 'January 24 Peace Day' to commemorate the day as a national holiday.”
The HWPL Peace delegation was invited to attend the 1st Philippine National Peace Conference. The Peace Conference was held on January 25, 2023 in Pasay City, Manila, Philippines. The conference was held with the cooperation of various national organizations, and more than 1,500 representatives from various fields such as politics, religion, education, and media attended the event. The meeting requested the establishment of a National Peace Day and Truce Day. The reason for requesting the establishment of a National Peace Day is that Mindanao celebrates this day as 'Peace Day' after the conclusion of Civil Peace Agreement in Mindanao by Chairman Lee Man-hee.
Another point to pay attention after the Civil Peace Agreement in Mindanao is the peace monuments erected in several cities. Places where peace monuments have been erected include Asuncion Square in Malate, Manila, the capital of the Philippines, and Cotabato State University on Mindanao Island. Since 2015, a total of 11 peace monuments have been erected in the Philippines. The reason why these peace monuments were built is to empathize with the practical role of HWPL and to settle peace.
Also, sympathy and support for HWPL's peace projects are spreading in the Philippines. For example, resolutions in support of the DPCW were passed in Manila and then in Davao de Oro, Mindanao. Previous cities in the Philippines that have officially endorsed the DPCW Declaration include Cotabato and Davao.
Chairman Man Hee Lee who returned from this tour, responded to reporters’ questions about the results of the tour, saying, “When I first visited Mindanao, where 120,000 people died in the 40-year conflict between Catholics and Muslims, I called each leader and villager and asked, ‘Do your god to worship teach you to kill people?' From that day, I proposed to cease war and engage in a peace movement together, letting them write a memorandum. Things that no one in the government or the military could do were accomplished at the civilian level. HWPL works for peace. Let's make the Republic of Korea the best country of peace in the world. Please help,”
