The World Peace Movement, celebrating the 10th anniversary of peacebuilding led by citizen
In May, peace events was held at 89 locations in 59 countries to commemorate 10 years of citizen-led peacebuilding efforts. 5,000 participants gathered at the Peace Gate of Olympic Park in Seoul, South Korea, and many people from the United States, China, Japan, Australia, and Germany participated in the event.
This world-class event held under the official title of 'HWPL's Annual Commemoration of the Declaration of World Peace and Peace Walk' is held, jointly being sponsored by the international NGO Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL) under the United Nations Economic and Social Council, and public and private organizations in other countries.
Chairman Man Hee Lee said, "After declaring peace in the global village (to achieve it together) 10 years ago, I went around the world and shouted for peace. I shouted that peace should be taught at home and at school, and that everyone should become a messenger of peace. I was promised not to fight a war by shouting peace at battlefield of Mindanao the Philippines.", expressing his thoughts on HWPL's peace activities for the past 10 years. In addition, he emphasized, "Everyone should unite under the title of peace and work together to create a good world and make it a legacy for future generations. This is what we need to do in this era in which we live."
At the event, the 'Joint Statement of 10th Annual Commemoration of the Declaration of World Peace' was announced. The statement indicates that this declaration has evolved into a global declaration of word peace and cessation of war in pursuit of a transition from the rule of force to the rule of law, based on the principles of "democracy, justice, civil liberties and equality, religious freedom and responsibility." He also said that during his 10 years of peacebuilding, he had achieved millions of participants in interreligious dialogue, peace education, peace urging for national leaders, and youth networks in more than 120 countries.
Through the joint statement, HWPL and participating organizations confirmed their will to institutionalize peace through international cooperation in accordance with UN Sustainable Development Goal ''Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions'. They promise to engage in mediation efforts, raising awareness, providing education in conflict zones, empowering youth and women, and promoting best practices for civil society engagement.
At the event in Korea, IPYG affiliated organizations united and delivered a plaque of appreciation to Chairman Man Hee Lee of HWPL for his dedication and contributions to world peace. In addition, along with a moment of silence for the soldiers sacrificed in the war, chairman Man Hee Lee of HWPL who is a Korean War veteran, presented a certificate of appreciation to a person of merit for the Korean War.
HWPL announced an ambitious goal of gaining the support of 10 million citizens through signatures in support of the enactment of an international law for peace. In addition, various commemorative events are being held to establish peace in local communities around the world.
