[#ManHeeLee #Peace_Story | #Peace_Education Madagascar] HWPL Peace Education Blossoms in the Hearts of Children
One of the most universal wishes shared by all people is peace. Yet even today, wars and conflicts persist around the world. Did you know that even in these turbulent times, more and more voices are rising in the name of peace?
Madagascar, the fourth-largest island in the world and home to a rich mix of ethnicities, is now the site of a special peace movement. This movement is driven by HWPL (Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light) and their peace education programs. Led by Chairman Man Hee Lee, HWPL is a global peace organization planting seeds of peace around the world—and the response in Madagascar has been enthusiastic.
▎ A Classroom of Peace: Special Lessons with Peace Teachers
Several schools in Madagascar—including Jules Ferry High School, Charlemagne High School, and Youth High School—have signed MOUs with HWPL and are now actively implementing peace education. Already, 26 peace teachers have been trained and are working in various regions.
Students are not just sitting through lectures—they’re experiencing peace through play and interaction. One student shared, "Through a candy-sharing game, I realized that greed is a reason why peace disappears." Even simple games are sparking changes in the thoughts and values of young minds.
▎ "Love is the Foundation of Peace" – Reflections from Peace Camp Participants
In February 2024, HWPL held a peace camp at Jean Joseph Rabearivelo High School with over 560 students participating. They created peace rules, wrote letters to Peace Messengers, and took action toward peace.
One student, Panaza Mebaniaaina Haingo, shared, “Peace is for everyone, and it begins with loving each other.” Educators noticed visible changes in the students’ attitudes after the camp, and they were deeply moved by the impact.
▎ Peace Education With Parents, Too
What’s impressive is that this education isn’t just for students. Madagascar’s Department of Civic Education held a peace program with around 420 parents participating. As both children and their parents learn about peace, a movement is growing to put peace into practice at home.
At Optifare School, they held a screening of the documentary “The Great Legacy” (which tells the story of a peace agreement in Mindanao mediated by HWPL), trained peace teachers, and even hosted a peace monument unveiling ceremony. School principals and education officials in attendance expressed strong support for HWPL’s peace education and pledged to collaborate further.
▎ The Future of Peace Begins with Education
Today, Madagascar is gaining attention not only for its beautiful landscapes and unique culture, but also as an emerging “nation of peace.” At the heart of it are the efforts of HWPL and the Malagasy people, who are nurturing the next generation with the values of peace.
Peace is not some distant ideal. It starts as a small, warm seed planted in the hearts of children. And one day, that seed will grow into a mighty tree that transforms the world.
Now may be the perfect time for us to reflect on peace once again. A country that teaches peace, children who dream of it—the story of Madagascar may also be a story for all of us.
